I remember my first class going right over my head. Its a lot of information to take in all at once, and trust me, with a bad teacher… it can be really discouraging. My best advice would be to try to pay less attention to the technical stuff, and more attention to the subject matter. Seems fairly obvious but still a key thing to remember. The technical stuff will come to you, and eventually become second nature.
